Reading- My Secret Super Power

Fyonna Vanderwerf | JAN 15, 2025

I’ve been a bookworm since the age of three. Seriously. Little Fyonna would wake up at the crack of dawn just to sneak in one more chapter of Ramona and Beezus. Then it was magical worlds with Aslan, and later, I was galloping through life alongside The Black Stallion. Reading has always been my way of rebooting, sharpening my mind, and expanding my world.

The beauty of reading is that it’s not just about escaping—it’s about growing. It’s a brain workout, a mindset reset, and sometimes, a heart-softener. When you read, you’re doing something phenomenal for yourself: boosting creativity, sparking fresh ideas, and even getting that sweet reward of finishing a chapter, a book, or just learning something new.

Here’s the kicker: reading isn’t just immediate gratification. It’s also about building delayed rewards—ideas that plant themselves in your brain, taking root and growing into actions, habits, and perspectives over time.

So, here are my top 10 current favorite reads and why they’ve earned a spot on my shelf (and in my heart):

1. Atomic Habits by James Clear

This one’s a game-changer for anyone looking to create habits that stick. Clear breaks it down into actionable steps—tiny changes that lead to massive results.
Takeaway: You don’t need to overhaul your life overnight. Start small, be consistent, and watch those habits transform your world.

2. Let Them by Mel Robbins

A power-packed read that reminds you to stop holding yourself back by trying to control everything. Let people do what they do—and focus on you.
Takeaway: You can’t control others, but you can control your reaction. Let go, and thrive in your own lane.
