National Health & Fitness Day: A Call to Move, Every Damn Day 💪
Fyonna Vanderwerf | JUN 7, 2025

Every first Saturday in June, Canadians are invited to move their bodies and move their lives forward.
But let’s get real:
We shouldn’t need a reminder.
We shouldn’t wait for a special day.
Your body? It’s your only permanent address.
It’s time we treated it like the home base of your entire life.
Back in 2014, Canada passed Bill S-211 to create National Health and Fitness Day—a simple idea with powerful roots:
“An initiative to make Canada the fittest nation on earth.”
This was never about six-packs or marathons. It was about access. Equity. Energy. Empowerment.
And today, it matters more than ever.
Before the pandemic:
🔹 Only 16% of Canadian adults were meeting the recommended 150 minutes of weekly physical activity.
Post-pandemic?
🔹 That number has dropped to under 11% for adults.
🔹 Screen time and sedentary hours are at record highs, especially for youth.
You don’t need a gym.
You don’t need fancy shoes.
You don’t need to “look the part.”
You just need one thing:
A choice.
“Movement is the language of life. It’s how you show your body it matters.”

🪑 Sit or Stand. Doesn’t Matter. Just Do It.
Right now. Not tomorrow.
Right now.
Commit to 10 minutes a day.
Then do it again. And again. Until it becomes who you are.
📣 Share this post. Start a ripple. Invite someone to move with you.
Because Canada doesn’t get healthier by itself.
It starts with YOU.
“Small daily acts create massive long-term momentum. That’s how we change a country. One body. One breath. One walk at a time.”-Fyonna Vanderwerf
