Let’s Dismantle the Lie: Your Body Isn’t Broken—The Culture Is

Let’s stop pretending.

Stop pretending that fitness isn’t being sold as a beauty product.
Stop pretending that we’re all just “getting healthy” when what we’re really doing is trying to shrink, sculpt, or surgically alter ourselves into someone else’s highlight reel.

Welcome to the age of #SkinnyTok and Looksmaxxing—where people are told that if they just push a little harder, eat a little less, lift a little more, or inject a little something...they might finally be enough.

And it’s toxic.
It’s dangerous.
And it’s everywhere.

🤳 The Problem Isn’t Your Body. It’s the Algorithm.

TikTok banned #SkinnyTok, but the message hasn’t gone anywhere.

It just changed outfits. Now it’s called “that girl” routines, “clean girl” aesthetics, “bulk and shred,” or “Looksmaxxing.”

  • Women are shamed for gaining 5 pounds.
  • Men are shamed if they don’t have 3% body fat and a jawline that could cut glass.
  • Teens are counting calories before they can legally vote.
  • And grown adults are quietly at war with mirrors they never asked to fight.

Let’s be clear: This isn’t fitness. This is fear marketing.

🌳CANADIAN REALITY CHECK: 5 Hard Truths

  1. 73% of Canadian teenage girls report feeling dissatisfied with their bodies by age 14 (Canadian Women’s Foundation, 2023).
  2. Only 23% of Canadians say they feel “very confident” working out in a gym environment (ParticipACTION, 2022).
  3. Fewer than 20% of fitness influencers in Canada have verified certifications or formal education in exercise science (University of Alberta Study, 2022).
  4. 1 in 3 Canadians aged 18–35 has tried a “viral diet” or trend seen on TikTok—many with dangerous results (Canadian Journal of Public Health, 2024).
  5. 80% of Canadian adults surveyed said they feel pressured by media to “fix” their bodies before summer (StatsCan Poll, 2023).

The pressure is real—and most of it’s built on lies, filters, and photoshopped “motivation.”

💣 I’ve Been in the Industry for 30 Years—and I’m Done With It

I’m not just a coach.
I’m a subject matter expert, one of Canada's Top Trainers, a MedFit and fitness industry award-winning presenter, and a trainer who builds inclusive programs for real people with real lives, real limitations, and real damn potential.

📌 Fitness was never supposed to be about erasing yourself.
📌 You were never meant to hate your body into submission.
📌 You’re not here to look smaller—you’re here to show up bigger in your own life.

🐝 What We Do Differently at Bees Knees Wellness

We don’t sell six-packs.
We don’t worship aesthetics.
We build something way more powerful:

💪 Strength

Your joints. Your resilience. Your bones. Your breath. Your focus. Your recovery. Not the angles of your abs.

🧠 Awareness

We teach structural movement, posture correction, breath-led training, and gut-aware nutrition. We want you to understand your body—not punish it.

💬 Language

You’ll never hear “burn it off” or “beach body ready” in our space. We use words like “capable,” “supported,” “adapted,” “progressive,” and “strong.”

🤝 Trust

You get to show up exactly as you are—men, women, non-binary, neurodivergent, aging, adapting, rebuilding. No filters. No shame.

🔥 5 Ways to Start Showing Up for Your Body (Not Fighting It)

  1. Move for function—not aesthetics.
Train to lift your grandkids, hike that hill, feel stable in your joints—not to hit a number.
  2. Call out toxic messages.
Unfollow, delete, mute. Build a feed that supports strength, not shame.
  3. Eat to support—not shrink—your body.
Fuel for strength, energy, hormones, and joy. Not restriction.
  4. Track how you feel—not just how you look.
Celebrate better sleep, more strength, less pain. That’s success.
  5. Speak kindly—especially to yourself.
If you wouldn’t say it to your best friend, don’t say it to your reflection.
