Create a Safe Space-FOR YOU
Fyonna Vanderwerf | MAR 16, 2025
Alright, let’s get real. Life is LOUD. It’s busy, chaotic, and full of people who need you. Your family, your job, your friends, your inbox, your to-do list—they’re all pulling at you, 24/7. And if you’re like most of us, the first thing to go when life gets hectic is you.
Your needs.
Your quiet.
Your space to just breathe.
But here’s the deal: You can’t pour from an empty cup. You can’t keep giving if you’re running on fumes. And the most powerful thing you can do—not just for yourself but for the people you love—is to take five to ten minutes every single day to hit reset. To reboot. To find comfort in your own presence.
This isn’t about spa days or expensive retreats. This is about building a habit—something simple, something sacred—where you choose yourself for a few moments every single day.

Maybe it’s five deep breaths before you get out of bed.
Maybe it’s a slow cup of coffee in silence before the world wakes up.
Maybe it’s a walk outside, no phone, just you and the sky.
Maybe it’s journaling one small win from the day before.
Maybe it’s music, movement, stretching, or staring out the window and doing nothing at all.
The what doesn’t matter as much as the why. And the why is simple: When you give yourself comfort and care, you build the resilience to handle life.
1️⃣ What small moment in my day brings me peace?
(Coffee? Stretching? A song that makes you feel something? Find it. Own it.)
2️⃣ Where do I feel most at ease?
(A cozy chair? Outside in the sun? The quiet of early morning? That’s your space.)
3️⃣ What is one thing I love doing alone?
(Reading? Writing? Singing in the car? You need more of it.)
4️⃣ When do I feel most like myself?
(After a workout? After a laugh? In the stillness of night? Notice it.)
5️⃣ What do I need to hear today?
(You’re doing enough. You are strong. You’re allowed to rest. Say it to yourself.)

Studies on habit-building, resilience, and mental strength show us something powerful: It’s not the big life-changing events that determine our ability to cope—it’s the small, daily choices that remind us of our own strength.
🔹 People who engage in small, intentional self-care moments handle stress better.
🔹 Those who have a daily ritual of comfort experience less burnout, better focus, and stronger emotional resilience.
🔹 Even five minutes of quiet, journaling, or movement can lower cortisol (your stress hormone) and shift your entire mindset for the day.
Translation? Taking time for yourself is not selfish. It’s necessary.
Write it down.
Say it out loud.
Repeat it every morning before you grab your phone.
Because you are. You are allowed to have your moments, your space, your breath.
The world will still be there when you come back.
Now go. Take 10.
And make it a non-negotiable. 💛
