Being a Grown-Up is Hard (And Here’s What We’re Going to Do About It)

Let’s just say it: being a grown-up is hard. It’s the juggle, the responsibility, the guilt, the work, the overwhelm, the “why is there never enough time?” and the “why is everyone looking at me for the answers?” You’ve got bills, meals, expectations, and a body that sometimes whispers (or screams) that it’s tired.
And on top of that, maybe you’re trying to learn a new skill, balance work, or keep your sanity while keeping others alive and well. Spoiler alert: there’s no finish line. Adulthood is just…this.
But here’s the deal: you’re not broken. You’re human. And there are things you can try this week that might just make the whole damn thing feel lighter. Let’s cut the nonsense and get into it.
Track one week of solid sleep or build yourself a calming bedtime environment. We’re talking no phone scrolling until your eyeballs hurt. Think soft lighting, white noise, or a boring book. Your brain is starving for rest. Give it a chance.
Try one of these 10 great Audible books to inspire, distract, or soothe:
The High 5 Habit – Mel Robbins
The Year of Yes – Shonda Rhimes
Daring Greatly – Brené Brown
Atomic Habits – James Clear
Bossypants – Tina Fey
Born a Crime – Trevor Noah
The Comfort Book – Matt Haig
Can’t Hurt Me – David Goggins
The Light We Carry – Michelle Obama
Greenlights – Matthew McConaughey
And if your brain wants to shut down at night? Try a 5-minute good night meditation:
Calm’s “7 Days of Sleep”
Insight Timer’s “Goodnight Body”
Headspace “Switch Off”
Sleep Cove’s “Deep Sleep in 5”
Jason Stephenson “5 Minute Sleep Meditation”
Tara Brach “Letting Go Before Sleep”
Michael Sealey “Peaceful Sleep”
Mindful Movement “Gratitude Bedtime Meditation”
Yoga Nidra Short Sleep
Smiling Mind “Kids & Adults Sleep Easy”
Stop grabbing junk. Here are 10 high-protein, high-fibre grab-and-go snacks:
Apple slices + almond butter
Greek yogurt cups
Edamame pods
Hard-boiled eggs
String cheese + whole grain crackers
Hummus + carrot sticks
Protein bars (look for 10g protein, 5g fibre)
Roasted chickpeas
Trail mix with nuts + seeds (skip the candy overload)
Cottage cheese with berries
Yes, I said it. Walk, roll, stroll, hike, shuffle—just 20 minutes outdoors every day. Nature doesn’t care how you look, how much money you make, or if you’re behind on emails. It heals. And while you’re at it, find someone to laugh with. Because laughter is medicine.
Why don’t skeletons fight each other? They don’t have the guts.
Why can’t your nose be 12 inches long? Because then it would be a foot.
What do you call fake spaghetti? An impasta.
Why did the scarecrow win an award? He was outstanding in his field.
What’s brown and sticky? A stick.
Parallel lines have so much in common… it’s a shame they’ll never meet.
Why don’t eggs tell jokes? They’d crack each other up.
What do you call cheese that isn’t yours? Nacho cheese.
Why can’t you trust stairs? They’re always up to something.
Two goldfish are in a tank. One says to the other, “Do you know how to drive this thing?”
